This project was my first major overseas endeavor.  It became the basis
for my first book,
The Outdoor Traveler's Guide to Australia, and
became a career founding experience.  Living and working in Australia
(and eventually Papua New Guinea) would open doors to places I
could have scarcely imagined.  Most importantly it gave me the
opportunity to wake everyday and learn to see, see the world through
my cameras, and begin honing a craft that requires endless practice,
and a skill -
seeing light - that can only be embraced through time.

I had the great privilege of being apart of the Australian countryside,
culture and experience a glimpse of traditional Aboriginal culture.  In
many respects I became a photographer in Australia and that
foundation of practicing the craft day after day in one of the most
diverse continents on Earth defined much of the following years.
Equally, the experiences and people gave birth to a desire to continue
traveling and "exploring my backyard".
